Review of Manfrotto Lumimuse 8 LED light

Here’s an unbelievably convenient addition to my kitbag this month. The Manfrotto Lumimuse is a tiny LED light that slots into the hotshoe on top of my Canon 5D MkIV or can be mounted on a mini tripod or, if you’re me, handheld at various angles to enhance the lighting in all kinds of shots.

It comes in a 3, 6 or 8 LED formation. I have the 8 LED version which comes with a ball head to attach to the camera (it’s a tight fit but it does work!). There is a four step dimmer to adjust the light level as needed. The kit also comes with a handy range of filters to slot in, although I haven’t used them much yet. I already use a Lumecube, which is excellent and gives more dimmer options, but this light is great for slotting on top of your camera and weighs next to nothing. Another great feature is that it charges using a USB cable, so no running out of AAs to worry about. However, the little rubber casing covering the mini-USB port is ridiculously flimsy and liable to get lost within the first couple of outings. Good luck finding it if dropped on a forest floor!

I’ll report further when I have experimented a little more. In the meantime, here are a couple of shots I took using the Lumimuse and spot metre lighting in broad daylight.

My kitbag at this point basically consists of Canon and Manfrotto products, so if you’d like to ask me anything about either company, I’d be happy to help if I can. I’ve certainly done my homework! If Manfrotto (or Canon) are reading, thank you for your fantastic products and I am available for sponsorship!!
